2010 in Review – Work, Play, & Everything in Between

Posted by evan on January 10th, 2011.

As we begin 2011, we want to reflect back on 2010 and all the things that we’ve accomplished.

We’ve reached some significant milestones for the company over the past year. Our team has a shared vision of changing the way we discover and consume web content. We’ve put a lot of our work into our product this year and you can read about the features and innovations we’ve delivered below.  It also helps that we really enjoy spending time together because it’s made our work-time feel a lot more like play-time.

The tech world has seen big changes this year with the introduction of the iPad and the growth of Android. Mobile apps on these platforms have really enhanced the way we consume web content. Likewise, we’ve built free YourVersion apps for both the iPad and the Android this year to complement our pre-existing free iPhone app. It’s incredible how quickly things have changed and we’re happy to be finding new ways to connect our users with the latest, relevant news tailored by their interest wherever and whenever they want it.

On that note, we’ve added to our suite of YourVersion browser tools this year. In addition to our Firefox toolbar, we’ve released a Chrome Extension and a Safari Extension to allow users to discover, bookmark, and share stories straight from their browser. For all other browsers, our bookmarklet will provide you with the same set of tools.

We’ve also entered into the world of blogs this year. We introduced a fully-customizable YourVersion widget to enhance personal and/or professional blogs. Our widget provides a real-time feed on the topic of your choice and can be customized by size and color. This is an exciting new space for us and we think there’s a lot of ways that we can iterate and improve on this in the new year.

As many of you have probably heard, recent news about Yahoo’s decision to sunset the bookmarking website Delicious has sent Delicious users looking for alternatives. We’ve experienced an influx of users coming from Delicious over the past few weeks and we’ve made efforts to make that transition as simple as possible. With our ‘Delicious Import‘ function, it’s incredibly easy to bring all of your Delicious bookmarks, tags and notes into your YourVersion account. You’ll also enjoy many of the same features  that you’ve grown accustomed to in conjunction with our unique suite of discovery and sharing features. Expect more improvements in the new year.  For more details on importing your Delicious bookmarks, getting the YourVersion browser tools for Firefox, Safari, Chrome and other browsers to bookmark on-the-go, and using the YourVersion Profile page to share your bookmarks with your friends, see our blog post.

Whew, we’ve been busy this year! Last, but certainly not least, we owe a big THANK YOU to the entire YourVersion community. We started with the vision of building an easy-to-use way to browse the latest web content based on user interests, but the future is now in your hands. You are the true drivers of our product and we work tirelessly to enhance our offerings to provide you with the user experience that you want. With that in mind, we have two simple requests for all of you.

One: Continue to send us feedback on our product. Tell us what you like (to make us happy) and what you don’t like (so we can improve). You can easily reach us through email, Twitter, or Facebook and we’re always happy to hear from you!

Two: If you like our product, please invite your friends about us! We’ve put a lot of work into our product and we’re very proud of what we’ve built. We want to share what we’ve done with more people and we can only do that with your help!

Thanks again to everyone who has helped to make 2010 a truly magical year. On behalf of the entire YourVersion team, we wish you all a very happy new year!
